We take off from Ft. Lauderdale on Spirit Airlines ($42 roundtrip plus taxes!!) and about a half an hour before our scheduled arrival time the pilot announces we'll be diverting to land in Panama City, Panama because the weather devices are down at the San Jose airport (SJO).  Thankfully a few minutes later they are working, and we land on time at SJO, which is actually in the nearby city of Alajuela.  After picking up our rental 4WD, we eat local cuisine (gallo pinto!  chorreada with cream!) at a nearby restaurant while the girls mainly just run around (they were well-behaved during the flight).  We have a long drive ahead of us toward the Arenal area and we pass by amazing vistas at every turn.  Unfortunately, it gets dark quickly and our cameras won't capture the scenery.  Far more frustrating is that our cameras won't capture the LAVA FLOW streaming down Volcano Arenal that we can clearly see from our hotel room balconies that night.  It is truly breathtaking!

Since our cameras couldn't capture the lava flow, we stole this image from the internet.  Sorry, Flavia and Gregory!
